FTP

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a generally accepted network protocol that provides the exchange of computer files between a client and a server on a computer network. Being one of the most common protocols, it forms an important part of the Internet infrastructure.

The internal work of FTP
FTP is built on the client-server principle. The client establishes a connection with the server and requests file transfer. After receiving the request, the server processes it and establishes a data connection. Two different connections are used for FTP operation: the control connection for commands and responses and the information connection for the actual file transfer.

FTP and HTTP: comparative analysis
The FTP and HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) protocols are used to transfer files over the Internet, but they serve different purposes. HTTP is for accessing and receiving web pages, and FTP is for transferring files. FTP is generally more efficient at transferring large files, while HTTP is better suited for accessing web content.

The role of FTP in the modern digital world
FTP plays an important role in the digital sphere. It is used in a wide variety of applications — from web development to software updates and even in cloud storage services. FTP’s ability to work efficiently with large files and directories makes it the preferred choice for many companies and individuals.

The FTP security aspect
In its original form, FTP is not a secure protocol because the transmitted data is not encrypted. However, with the development of FTP, secure versions such as FTPS (FTP Secure) and SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol) have appeared, which ensure secure file transfer by encrypting data during transmission.
