ISDN

SDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) is a technology that makes it possible to transmit a digital signal using a telephone line.

The principle of operation

ISDN works by dividing a common telephone line into several channels. To avoid data transfer rate losses, separate interfaces are formed: basic and basic. The basic one includes 2 channels for voice and other data, as well as for highlighting the Internet line. Due to the second, a protocol for connecting to broadband lines is being created.

Connection and configuration

The ISDN connection is connected via the serial port and the provider’s telephone line. Connection and further configuration are carried out as follows:

  • modem drivers are installed;
  • the router is configured according to the correct numbers provided;
  • a connection is set up for pre-defined telephone lines;
  • The modem is programmed to make a call to an Internet service provider.

ISDN is considered an outdated technology today. At the same time, the developers do not give up trying to improve it, since ISDN has a number of advantages:

  • the ability to receive two calls on the same line at once;
  • faster and more reliable transmission of information than in the analog;
  • the ability to connect additional devices on one line;
  • the minimum amount of interference;
  • the ability to exchange multi-format data.

However, despite such a number of advantages, one of the main disadvantages is considered to be quite large investments. They will definitely be required if there is a question of increasing the signal speed and improving its quality.
