ISO

ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is an international standardization organization that participates in the development of standards for products and technologies. The main goal of the organization is to improve the processes and quality of work around the world.

There are three main types of ISO:

  • ISO 9001:2015 — Quality management system standard;
  • ISO 27001:2013 — Information security management requirements;
  • ISO 14001:2015 is a standard for environmental management systems.

How does ISO differ from ISO standards?

If ISO is a non-governmental organization, then ISO standards are directly international agreements. The standards regulate the performance of specific activities at the appropriate level and are the main products of ISO.

The common ISO standards serve:

  • the efficiency of the organization and the reduction of the number of failures;
  • reduction and optimization of energy consumption;
  • reducing the environmental impact, including reducing the amount of waste;
  • occupational health and safety to reduce workplace accidents;
  • ensuring food safety;
  • protecting confidential security.

How to get an ISO certificate for a business

Despite the fact that confirmation of compliance with ISO standards is an expensive and difficult process, some organizations and industries may need them to carry out activities or expand the range of services provided by the company.

If certification is really beneficial for the company, it is recommended to take the following steps:

  • familiarize yourself with the ISO standards;
  • analyze the work of your company. Identify those processes that do not meet the quality standards;
  • document the plans and procedures that will be carried out in order to eliminate problem areas;
  • start applying ISO standards;
  • first, conduct an internal audit to verify compliance with the standard;
  • go through the official certification process.
