Keylogger

A keylogger is a type of software or hardware device that records every keystroke on a computer keyboard. Keyloggers can be used for both malicious and legitimate purposes. Hackers can use keyloggers to steal sensitive information such as passwords and credit card numbers. On the other hand, keyloggers can also be used by employers to control the actions of employees on company computers, as well as parents to control the actions of children on the Internet.

Keyloggers are divided into software and hardware:

  • software keyloggers are usually installed on a computer and run in the background, imperceptibly recording keyboard actions;
  • Hardware keyloggers are physical devices that connect to a keyboard and computer.

Both types of keyloggers are difficult to detect because they do not appear in the list of installed programs or in the computer’s task manager. Therefore, in most cases, the use of keyloggers is illegal, as it may violate human rights to privacy. In many countries, it is important to obtain the explicit consent of the user in order to use keyloggers for any purpose.

To protect against keyloggers, it is recommended to use strong passwords, not view confidential information on public devices, and use antivirus software capable of detecting and removing keyloggers. It is important to be careful when downloading software from unknown sources, as keyloggers may be hidden in seemingly harmless programs.
