Microsoft SQL

Microsoft SQL (Special Query Language) is a database management system based on the query language. It is called Transact-SQL, developed by Microsoft and Sybase in 1989.

Microsoft SQL is a cross—platform solution and works under all types of operating systems.

The main components

The DBMS consists of several components that are responsible for different areas.

  • Database Engine Services is responsible for storing, processing and protecting the data that users upload to the DBMS. Built-in replication functions and a database management system.
  • Analysis Services works with analytics and provides administrators with tools to collect data.
  • Reporting Services is used to create reports in any form (graphical, tabular, matrix, etc.). There are many add-ons inside it, depending on the client’s requirements.
  • Data Quality Client is a utility for clearing information and performing tasks in DQS. It has a graphical interface and connects directly to the Data Quality of Service server.
  • Client Tools Connectivity contains modules for maintaining communication and interaction between the end user and the server.
  • Integration Services consists of graphical tools and programmable parts for integration into the current database.
  • The Client Tools SDK provides programmers with tools to develop their own templates and improve standard configurations to meet their requirements.
  • Management Tools — DBMS management tools. It consists of 2 parts: the first (Basic) contains the required minimum set, and the second (Full) contains all available options.
  • Master Data Services is used to integrate information from other sources into a single database.

Features

  1. Microsoft SQL can process 2 types of data in parallel: structured and unstructured. This is due to PolyBase technology. It virtualizes external sources of information so as not to convert data to a database format. As a result, the customer gets access to all types of data that he needs in one virtual infrastructure with a single entry point in the form of SQL.
  2. With the development of neural networks and artificial intelligence, part of the routine operations is performed by AI (artificial intelligence). Manufacturers are constantly improving the SQL code by integrating new features and technologies into it, for example, Spark technology has been added to MS SQL 2019, which is responsible for machine learning.
  3. Microsoft has added a free SMSS (SQL Server Management Studio) software environment specifically for developers. The utility manages all DBMS components through a graphical interface. It is regularly updated and maintained by the developer to the current state. There is free software with limited functions — SMSS Express.
  4. The procedure for updating software products related to MS SQL has been simplified. The end user downloads the required version of the distribution from the official website, and then selects the required version of the service pack (SP). At the final stage, it loads a cumulative upgrade.
  5. Information is protected while MS SQL is running using Always Encrypted technology. The software encrypts data inside the database without transferring it to external sources.

Microsoft SQL is a professional product with many additional modules and options. Administrators can customize it for their tasks and manage information within the organization using a single console.
