VMware vCloud Director is the software that is responsible for managing the cloud. It is included in the vCloud Suite (vSC) utility.
Licensing
vCloud Director is available under a paid license. It can only be purchased as part of three products: vCS Standard, Advanced or Enterprise.
If the client already has the purchased vSphere package, then in this case it will be necessary to upgrade the license to the vCloud Suite level through a separate application to the vendor.
vCD is a cloud service management server that is delivered using the IaaS model.

Features
The software provides the following features:
- Create or modify the parameters of virtual data centers, as well as virtual machines that are part of the data center.
- Configure tariffs to meet customer requirements. Possible implementation options: subscription, pay-as-you-go, etc.
- Automatically issue invoices to customers according to the selected tariff plan.
- Multitenancy. It allows customers to combine users, virtual data centers and network switching into a single infrastructure. It also provides the ability to create isolated units that are available to individual customers for rent on demand.
Distribution models
vCloud Director provides the client with 3 resource allocation options for virtual machines.
In the first case, the customer chooses a fixed percentage of the total number of their resources. It also sets quotas for the maximum possible percentage of allocation in the resource pool. This method is called Allocation Pool.
The second option is called Pay-as-you-go. There is no reserved percentage of resource allocation, the client pays only for the actual use. Limits are set at the virtual machine level.
And the last option is the Reservation Pool. The customer reserves the necessary capacities for their tasks. The maximum resource limits are configured by the user independently.
To manage virtual data centers, VMware has developed the vCloud Director product. It is delivered only under a paid license and offers a number of advantages to both providers and end users. There is a flexible configuration of functions and resource allocation models to meet customer requirements.
