vCenter
virtual infrastructure

Centralized visualization, simplified and efficient management with scalability and extensibility in the hybrid cloud - all from a single console

vCenter Server Appliance

VMware vCenter capabilities

1/6
Easy deployment

Rapidly deploy vCenter as a pre-built, optimized, and easy-to-maintain virtual appliance. Integration of vSphere Update Manager with vCenter Server Appliance speeds and simplifies patching and update deployment. REST APIs enable easy, template-based, reusable deployment of vCenter Server Appliance, which speeds deployment and reduces human error.

2/6
Proactive optimization

vCenter helps you allocate and optimize resources for maximum efficiency. You can administer up to 70,000 virtual machines and 5,000 nodes across 15 vCenter instances. The vSphere HA and DRS clusters support up to 64 nodes and 8,000 virtual machines. Replication of roles, permissions, and licenses across the infrastructure helps you log in, browse, and search the hierarchies of all vCenter servers simultaneously. Unify multiple vCenter Server Appliances and improve visualization without expensive load balancing tools.

3/6
Scaling

Easily extend on-premises environments to vSphere-based public clouds, regardless of the vCenter version in use. Improved management of large environments: a single vCenter instance can manage 2,000 hosts and 35,000 virtual machines.

4/6
Built-in elements

vCenter Server Appliance and related services are protected with built-in support for high availability and a target recovery time of within 10 minutes. vSphere provides built-in high availability capabilities in an active-passive configuration that are certified for use with vCenter Server Appliance.

Built-in backup and disaster recovery tools provide appliance backups as a set of files without interrupting vCenter operations.

With the built-in scheduler, you can schedule vCenter Server Appliance backups and control the number of backups stored.

5/6
Centralized control and visualization

Administer your entire vSphere infrastructure from a single interface. The HTML5-based vSphere Client with improved response time and a more user-friendly interface lets you manage core vSphere capabilities from any browser. Assign users to specific roles, search the entire vCenter server hierarchy, or initialize new virtual machines with the click of a button.

6/6
Possibility to connect third-party modules

The vSphere Client plug-ins provided by VMware partners give IT administrators the ability to manage third-party elements in their data centers directly from the vCenter interface. Our server management software is backed by the industry’s largest ecosystem of partners who develop vSphere Client plug-ins through an open SDK. This enables vCenter server users to perform tasks such as backup, data protection, server management, network management, security, and more directly from the vCenter interface.

To improve end-user satisfaction, VMware launched a plug-in certification program for vSphere customers in 2016. Certified plug-ins provide optimal performance, a more efficient security model, customer isolation from failure in a single plug-in, and improved scalability of vCenter Server Appliance. Customers will be able to identify vSphere Certified Customer Plug-ins by the presence of the VMware Ready logo.
